Adopt a Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed
Briley the Dog needs a home
German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs.
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.
Briley is an extremely sweet girl that we recently rescued from a SD reservation. Reservation dogs lead a very hard life, with no shelter, little food, and no vet care. Many of them die on the reservation due to accidents, deprivation, and/or sickness, among other causes. Fortunately for Briley, she is one of the lucky ones, as she got out safely, and she will now get to experience life as a beloved family pet. In fact, she seems to realize how lucky she is, and she is clearly loving life in her foster home!
Briley is a 1 year old that appears to be an Australian Cattle Dog mix. At 35lbs, she is an adorable petite! She is really friendly and sweet. She is still a puppy at heart and absolutely LOVES to play with other dogs! As a matter of fact, her favorite things are snuggling with her humans, playing with the other household dogs, and happily gnawing on her chew toys - usually in that order! :). Briley's favorite toys are Kongs and rope toys.
Briley can be a little shy at first, but she warms up quickly! She is crate and potty-trained, and walks well on a leash. Briley is the perfect pup for someone looking for a loyal, active, playful, and snuggly companion!
Like all German Shepherd Dogs, Australian Cattle Dogs, and other herding breed mixes that we have in rescue, she will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization. Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.
Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.
