Adopt a Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Toodles participated in the annual Lovingston Christmas Parade last Saturday. She didn't know a stranger and was a perfect canine ambassador. She walked well in her harness and had tail wags and greetings for all people who would say hello to her. She especially like laying her head in the laps of children, and would sit prettily in front of people to be petted.  She never jumped up, barked or pulled, but reveled in the attention.  Her behavior was stellar in the middle of all the flashing lights, sirens, children's squeals and multitudes of activities.  Toodles will make someone a wonderful companion.

Toodles is a very sweet girl that was surrendered to animal control because her owners could no longer care for her.  She is about 6 years old and weighs 53 pounds.  She is a black and white bully breed mix with curious ears that do all kinds of things:  they lay back, stick straight up, and stick out to the side.  She is a FAVORITE of shelter staff—and that should tell you a lot.  Everyone loves Toodles!

Toodles is a wonderful dog that has been overlooked for way too long.  We’ve had her for months and she is long overdue for her forever home.  She is a medium energy, laid back girl, that constantly makes us laugh with her cute antics.  Each day when it is her turn to go out and play in our large yard, she first beelines it to the toy box, puts her front feet up on it, and carefully selects her toy for the day.  Once she has it, she heads for the gate to the big yard and runs like a crazy girl—so happy with her freedom to run and play with her new toy.  She tosses it up and catches it for ten minutes or so, and then she puts it someplace safe while she explores.  (Sometimes she takes it to her favorite hiding place to bury it in a safe place for a while.)  When it is time for her to go back inside, she usually finds the toy again so she can take it back to her room with her.  This comical girl:

- loves collecting toys and balls and stock piling them.

- loves hanging out with people and playing ball with them.

- enjoys removing balls from the doggie pool (bobbing for balls) and taking them to her room.

- loves sitting beside us to collect butt scratches and snuggles and would be a lap dog if she was small enough to be.

- knows and responds to SIT, WAIT, and COME. 

- does not jump up on people.

- accepts treats with a very gentle mouth and is pretty good on a leash too.

- never tries to dig out under a fence…even though she does some digging to hide toys.

- is VERY CLEAN in her room (was house trained in her previous home), which is an indication that she would probably be very easy to house train to her new home.

Toodles does not care for the company of other dogs here at our shelter and would do best in a home without any other pets.  She needs a dog savvy home to keep her from getting herself in trouble. 

She longs to be someone’s best friend and lounge around home with them.  If you don’t have other pets, please consider adopting Toodles.  She is a lovely girl!
