Adopt a Keeshond (long coat)

Southern California Keeshond Rescue (SCKR) welcomed Raven (DOB 10/21/04) into our rescue program when her family faced lifestyle changes and a move to 'no pets' housing. Sweet and lovable Raven was the family's Christmas puppy in 2004 and she is enjoys attention and being included in family activities. We obtained Raven's veterinary records and they indicate that she has not received regular veterinary care in recent years. Raven was examined by our veterinarian to evaluate any medical issues. Upon arrival in rescue, Raven was examined by our veterinarian and veterinary records from her previous veterinarian were obtained for review. Raven’s 2015 veterinary records indicate the mammary lump was found and surgery was recommended by her veterinarian; however, her owner declined treatment. After careful evaluation of Raven’s laboratory work and history, our veterinarian performed surgery and much needed dental treatment, which resulted in multiple extractions. The biopsy indicated that excision was complete. Unfortunately, the biopsy revealed that Raven's lump was mammary carcinoma, grade 1, which is associated with a 7.1%.recurrence/metastasis rate. We are hoping that Raven will be fortunate to be among the 92.8% of dogs with no recurrence/metastasis. Raven will be evaluated while in foster care and periodic clinical follow-up will be scheduled.

Raven is being examined every 60 days by a veterinary specialist-internal medicine to determine if there are any changes in light of Raven's mammary carcinoma grade 1 and elevated lymphocytes. The internal medicine specialist performs radiography, lab work and ultrasounds, as needed, to evaluate Raven.
