Adopt a German Shepherd Dog (short coat)

Heidi is a gorgeous sweet purebred German Shepherd seeking her forever home. We took her into sanctuary a year ago due to some difficulties her owners were having, but they failed to take the necessary steps to get her back and keep her safe. We would love to give her a permanent home ourselves but our household with rescued dogs coming and going is too active for her sensitive nature.

Heidi is 7 years old, spayed, house trained, crate trained, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative and she is on monthly medication to protect her against heartworms, fleas and intestinal parasites. She is a lean 74 lb and has never had any health issues. She is easy to handle for grooming, veterinary procedures and nail trims. She loads up on command and is a good car rider. We have not worked with her on training but she knows "sit" and "crate" and would be easy to train for other commands. She does need some more practice walking on a loose leash but she's very responsive.

Heidi is fine with cats. She is not a fan of yappy and/or rambunctious dogs and puppies. She is very dignified and is only interested in the attention from her humans and is a true Velcro type German Shepherd. When she wants attention she will wave one of her front paws or gently tap you with it. She would probably be fine with one other quiet natured dog, preferably a male, but we would have to tear them together. She was raised around children and is not aggressive towards them and also isn't a jumper but if there are children in a prospective home for her they would need to be older and experienced with large dogs.

Heidi is located near Columbia SC. I would like to place her as close to that area as possible. Her adoption process includes a phone interview, written application, veterinary reference, home visit, trial period of at least two weeks, and finalization of the adoption by contract.
