Domestic Short Hair (short coat) Cat

Schmittens **COURTESY POST** the Cat needs a home

We originally found Schmittens after someone posted on the Italian Village website about a stray cat who was in bad shape and needed some help. When we found Schmittens, we referred to him as the Charlie Brown Christmas tree-meaning he was pretty bare looking since he was missing a lot of fur and looked kind of scrawny. When he immediately started loving on us and rubbing and purring we knew we needed to foster this sweet guy and help him find his forever home. With a little love, TLC, and a trip to the vet, Schmittens started a wonderful transformation. He put on weight, his fur grew in and turned a glossy black, and he started to look healthy and happy. Moreover, he understood that people could be trusted and he started to give us his love in return. Schmittens definitely has his own distinct personality. His goals in life include catching the red laser dot (it is his Mt. Everest if you will), giving his best mean mugging face to the squirrels outside, looking dapper in a bow tie, and giving cuddles to those who prove worthy. He enjoys showing off his scratching post climbing skills. He fancies himself a mini-jaguar and keeps his hunting skills finely tuned by catching any errant piece of string that dares to cross his path. Don't let his tough guy routine fool you though; at his core Schmittens is a big softy and just wants someone to give him head scratches at the end of the day. He would love to have a forever home where he can get head scratches and give cheek kisses and head bumps every single day.

Schmittens is FIV+ which means his immune system is compromised.  Health issues should be dealt with sooner rather than later as they have a harder time fighting off illness.  A low stress environment is best for FIV+ cats.  For more information about FIV visit http://bestfriends.org/resources/fiv-cats-faqs
