Hello, my name is Kojo! I’m really glad to be here. The place I grew up in wasn’t very nice because the people I lived with hit me with things, so I’m shy of new people at first, especially new men and kids because I expect them to hurt me. I warmed up to my foster mom right away though and now I love her. My foster dad took the time to show me that not all men are mean by being the designated hotdog guy. I love hotdogs and I’m loving my foster dad now too. He gives the best cuddles!
My foster mom says I'm doing a great job meeting new strangers. They keep inviting new people over to meet me so I'm getting really good at it. I'm barely afraid of anyone anymore because they always have food! One time I was so excited to meet a new person that I jumped right into his lap! B
ecause of my past, I would like to live in a house without kids but I think it would probably do me good to live with a man, because he could keep working with me to see that there’s nothing to fear anymore. I might never be good with kids though, so probably need a family with no kids or older kids who will respect my boundaries. I would also be best in a home with a fenced yard too, so that I can play and not have to worry about who might approach unexpectedly, so you do not have to worry about me reacting out of fear.
I am ok with other dogs and am a very friendly boy but I'd be happy to just live with people too, as my interactions with other dogs can be difficult at times.
I currently live in a home with two other dogs, an elderly Italian greyhound mix and a hyper female pitbull, and I love them both, but need to be well supervised with them. My foster mom is still managing our interactions because I am a little too strong for the little dog and I wouldn’t want to accidentally hurt him. Even though I really like the other dogs, I like my foster mom so much more, so I don't always like to share her. Just like a little kid, I'm having to learn how to share and it has been a slow process.
I already know "sit", "lay down", "on your bed", and we’re working on learning to like being in the kennel. I whine hoping you’ll let me out, but if you don’t give in I’ll quiet down. I’m very quiet at night though, so I won’t wake you up. I'm told I'm the best in the whole house at waiting nicely for dinner; I will sit and watch you and not touch my food until you say "ok". I do drool while I wait but I just can't help it, I LOVE DINNER!
I’m young and boisterous, so I could benefit from some basic training to show me the proper way to behave but my foster family are working on that. They say it's really good that I almost never jump up, and have learned some basic commands, like sit, down, touch and shake. Mostly I just need love and someone willing to give me a few weeks to learn to trust them, and once I trust you, I'm the most loyal friend you'll ever have; I'll follow you everywhere.
I love
to play fetch in the yard, but I haven’t quite figured out that I’m supposed to bring the ball back yet. I’m kind of a goof and sometimes get so excited to chase the ball that I don’t pay attention to what’s in front of me. I really love being petted, especially belly rubs, and will roll all the way onto my back for them! I also LOVE to chew on bones and un-stuff all the stuffies I'm given!
I would love a home of my own where I’d never have to worry about being hurt again. Do you have room in your heart for a gorgeous hunk like me?
