Adopt a German Shepherd Dog

German Shepherd Dog Dog

Roslyn the Dog needs a home

German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

Roslyn is a gorgeous 2 y.o. girl who ended up in trouble at an overcrowded kill shelter. The shelter can be a scary place, and Roslyn was terrified in the loud, unfamiliar surroundings. Once out of the shelter, Roslyn quickly started warming up and thriving. She has been doing fabulously well in her awesome foster home, and she is now ready for a forever home of her own!

Roslyn is a super sweet, gentle, mellow young girl. Roslyn is a soft-eared Shepherd, and her floppy ears only make her more charming! She adores the children in her foster home. She is a little shy at first, but once she warms up to her humans, she truly explodes with all the affection she has to give. Roslyn loves to go for morning walks, likes to play with the other dog in the household, and she enjoys taking a little afternoon nap!

Roslyn likes to cuddle and prefers sleeping near her humans, but she will also sleep soundly in a kennel at night. Roslyn's favorite toys include antlers, marrow bones and plush dog toys. Roslyn is a very smart girl who learns quickly, and is eager to please. Roslyn does well in public. She is a superb girl who adapts well to new situations simply with positive reassurance and guidance.

Roslyn is great with other dogs her size. Because of her strong prey drive, she would not be suited to a home with cats. Roslyn is shy about meeting new people, but loves meeting new dogs and is very good at reading their body language. Roslyn would be fine as only dog, but she would love to have a doggy sibling, as she loves to play, and having a dog buddy helps boost her confidence, especially during walks.

Roslyn is well-behaved in public and has good leash manners. Because she is shy in the beginning, Roslyn's new family must be prepared to be patient, and allow her sufficient time and space, as she adjusts to her new home. We feel that this shy, lovely girl, would do best with adopters who are home a lot, and in a household on the quieter side, without a lot of people going in and out. Once she warms up, she will be all love and affection. She just needs a little bit of extra time to get there :).

Like all German Shepherds and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Roslyn will need training, consistency, boundaries, and enough activity and socialization. Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.

Please review the information in the "About Us" and "Adopt" sections on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org), as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
