This beautiful boy is Harley, a majestic and handsome 7 year old lover boy. Harley is what

some might call a BIG DOG, as he stands 32” at the shoulder and is a little over 105 lbs. With

all that size comes physical power and intimidation, but don’t be fooled, he is a sweetheart!!

Harley will prove it to you by greeting you at the door, by following you around to make sure you

are still where he left you a few minutes earlier and by sneaking up on your couch for naps.

Like many German Shepherds he can be protective of his family. He likes to bark at strangers,

scaring them with his deep bark, until they get close enough to see that the tail is wagging!! \

Harley had a great home with several other dogs, his favorite buddy was a Chihuahua, but there

was also had a shepherd mix and a husky and they all got along well. Unfortunately his family

lost their home and had to place him in a shelter. Being left in a shelter made Harley a little

anxious and scared, causing a mild case of separation anxiety; the great part about this is he

will follow you around and keep you company wherever room you go until he is sure that you

are not leaving. Isn’t that great? In addition to separation anxiety, he developed a habit of

chewing on his legs when he was scared and lonely. It became a bad habit, much like biting

ones fingernails, but his foster dad found these great, and quite fashionable, leg sleeves that

really made it much better. While we know Harley loved his furry siblings, he did not assimilate

as well into the pack at his foster family’s house showing that he might be a little “dog selective”.

Of course, with the right family, a strong handler and proper training, he could accept another

dog into the pack, but would need to be the Alpha dog.

A yard with a fence would be great for Harley. Harley loves to take walks and does great on a

leash, however, due to his size, he requires a strong handler. Occasionally he spots a squirrel

or a rabbit and decides he might want to try his hand in catching it! While he is 7, he is still very

active and athletic, so much so that he also loves to go out and jog with his foster dad too! He

has had some command training in his past and his foster has been working with him to

reinforce what he already knows. His previous foster had cats, Harley seemed to tolerate them

but they did not leave him alone with the cats to be safe. Older kids are great, especially if they

have treats and love on him, but he is so big that little ones might accidentally get knocked over.

He is house broken and crate trained, but requires an XXL crate. He is left out when his foster

leaves and doesn’t cause any trouble, well, he does try to squeeze out the door so he can go

too, hoping for one of those great car rides or another walk!!

Harley currently lives in Virginia Beach, VA with his foster dad. Handsome Harley needs a

strong and stable family to ensure he gets over his separation anxiety and stays the macho dog

he truly is when loved by the right family. If you are interested in meeting Handsome Harley,
