Adopt a Great Pyrenees (medium coat)
Leia in LA - new! the Dog needs a home
Please note that we are not accepting any more applications at this time for Leia.
Children in the home must be at least 6 years old.
Previous dog experience is required, preferably large breed.
Female Great Pyrenees rarely cohabitate with other females successfully. Our goal is for each adoption to be a permanent placement, therefore homes that already have a female dog are not eligible to adopt a female Pyr.
Have you decided that a Great Pyrenees dog is what you need for your family? Have you just been patiently looking for the dog that is “the one”? Well, your wait is over because she is right here! Leia is the girl that checks off all of your boxes for your Great Pyrenees wishlist. You could even say that she is the “Pyrenees jackpot”. Here is what makes Leia great (spoiler alert: it is pretty much everything): she is young so you will have many, many great years to spend with her. She does not seem interested in partaking in that dreaded puppy phase that so many folks wish they could just skip past. She is a pure-bred Great Pyrenees and is true-to-the-breed with her characteristics. She excels at naps! In fact, at her foster home they say “Leia likes to... lay...” :) She is very smart and very quick to follow a routine. For all of you adopters who want a BIG Pyrenees (you know who you are!) then this is definitely the girl to check out because she is projected to be about 120 pounds at her ideal weight! Leia has the thickest and softest fur, it’s like petting a thick, white fur rug. She is super calm and laid-back; nothing seems to bother this girl. She gets along great with other dogs big and small so if you have a “Luke” at your house who has been waiting for his “Leia” then the wait is over. She has been cat tested and does not seem to even notice them. She is not much of a barker but she does let out a little unladylike burp every now and again after eating :) Here is what doesn’t make Leia great: nothing! Remember, we mentioned above that everything about her is pretty great!

About Us: National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes so we know how they will interact with your family. Please consider adopting or fostering. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. Prior to adoption, NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks (usually more), spayed or neutered and fully vetted. Dogs coming from out of area are certified with a USDA health certificate before going to their new homes. Our rescuers adhere to the highest placement standards and will take back any dog whose adoption does not succeed. Visit www.nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed.
