Adopt a Mastiff / Boxer / Mixed (short coat)

Linda the Dog needs a home
We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
There's so much to say about Linda! Don't be fooled by her intimidating appearance and size.
Linda is a beautiful 80 lb. approximately 5 year old Mastiff mix girl who was seemingly completely isolated and used purely for breeding her entire life. She longs for love but clearly has never experienced it prior to coming to A.R.F. Her big brown sad and soulful eyes and timid ways will completely break your heart and make you want to be the one who fills her life with only love. Her emotional rehabilitation is an ongoing process that may continue for years. But she is such a gentle soul and is worth it. Linda will only go to a home without children (or grandchildren) but that has a fenced yard and another dog that will be a good mentor and companion for her. Love and patience and a willingness to learn how to own a severely fearful dog will be key for the right home. She is mostly housetrained but uses a piddle pad occasionally.
Her nickname is Chicken Little. Linda wants so badly to be part of a loving family. She has absolutely no aggressive tendencies and has come so very far in overcoming her fearfulness in the 3 months that she's been with A.R.F.. She arrived so fearful that she would not walk at all. She had to be lifted step-by-step everywhere, but ran through a glass storm door in fear on Day 1 when the overhead light was turned on. She has become accustomed to a basic household's environment (tv, lights, furnace sounds, ...) but still cowers when approached. She allows her foster parents to do everything needed to her such as bathing, nail trims, brushing, putting her sweater on & off, etc... without a fuss by freezing until it's over. She's gradually accepting small shows of affection and occasionally ventures over for a pet or sniff.
Linda will not attend events. Visits with approved applicants (the entire family and any current dogs) at the foster's home in DeKalb, IL are required.
Linda is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, good with dogs and cats, and spayed . Linda' s adoption fee is $ 400. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Linda fill out an online application today! http://arf-il.org/application.html Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.
