Adopt a Terrier / Mixed (long coat)
Sophie the Dog needs a home
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.
A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known.

What kind of home would be best for me? Sophie is good with other dogs - with her previous foster siblings, she picked up well on what they each like and their boundaries. She would do best in a home with another dog that she can interact and play with. She hasn't been formally tested with a cat, but she barks at stray cats and chases wild life, so she probably needs a cat free home. She does have a prey drive and will chase animals outside. And we aren't sure how she is with kids, but she would definitely not do well with small kids as she can be exuberant and doesn't necessarily know her size. Sophie needs an active home to help work out her energy. And she may do best with an experienced owner as she needs to work on training.
What is my personality like? Sophie is really sweet and loving, but not too needy which is great. She will seek you out for attention and snuggles but is capable of doing her own thing too. She is energetic, but calms down well so as long as she gets some romping time every day, she will be perfectly content to sleep on the couch with someone in the evening. She loves to destroy toys and thinks bones are great too. She is good in her crate during the day. Her foster mom wouldn't trust her out all day just yet as she does like to steal socks and other things if left out. They are working on manners, like jumping and counter surfing. She knows what she is supposed to do for the most part, but she's a bit devilish. She is clever and isn't destructive; she's been stealing gloves off the table to carry around, not chew up. She is definitely a terrier, so she needs someone who will out-stubborn her! She is also great in the car but doesn't like getting in and out of the car (also working on that).
How do I act when I first meet new people? Everyone is wonderful and she expects scratches!

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
