Adopt a Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)
Benny the Dog needs a home
Updated: 1-29-18
My name is Benny. My situation was considered so desperate that the Humane Society of the United States was called to came in and assist the Habersham Animal Control team in GA. Yes...I am a hoarder victim. Apparently, there was hundreds of dogs on the property where I was found. But I lived alone in a circular pen and my only protection was a blue plastic barrel. I could not fit in it, it was too small for me. I learned how to adapt to being alone and never having any type of comfort, or protection from the weather. That was my life before...
NOW: I am learning things. I found out I am about 3 years old and weigh 60 lbs. and it has been decided that my breed is an Aussie Shepherd mix. My foster mom says that it's our best guess but I think it's a pretty good one.
Let me tell you about myself. I have been in WI since April 2017. It was a tough fight for this lady from WI who wanted to save me, but she said she would not leave without me. I didn't know anything about being a pet. NOTHING...collars, leashes, homes, noises, etc. Think about me living in complete silence in a remote wilderness with just other animals around me. Yes...I know animals but humans and touch was something I had to learn. This tall lady would not give up and I came home with her for 3 months, I went to another family for 5 months to learn manners and socialize in all kinds of places. I am now back with my first foster mom. I found out I LOVE PEOPLE and I don't mind meeting dogs or cats. What is the most challenging is the everyday activities in a home. Just pulling up the blinds makes me bolt. I have learned that I do love toys, I like to go over and pick one out and pull it to pieces, then go get another one! I am potty trained and I will let you know when I have to go out! I cannot live in a home without a fenced in yard. I have to have one because unexpected things spook me and I will run and hide. You will have to have a lot (I mean A LOT!) of patience with me but once I know I can trust you and that you will love me forever...I will always keep my eyes on you. I would not mind playing in a large fenced in yard with a friend whom would want to play all day with me. I didn't have that in my past life, but I learned that I really like it! I am crate trained but my mom has this awesome King Sized bed with Egyptian cotton sheets that I have no issues sleeping on when she is not in it. =-))) I don't chew things I'm not supposed to, I'm not picky about having my ears, paws, or tail touched, and I'm very good at sharing my toys and food,
Yes...I am a special dog with quirks but I know there is a forever family out there that would meet all the criteria to make mine a wonderful life. PS...My foster mom said to say...I am a perfect walker on a leash. She is very proud of me as I stay right by her side. (BONUS POINTS)
Foster mom's comments: I know it is easy to feel sorry for Benny, but he truly needs a family who won't baby him and can help him continue to gain his confidence. Please do not submit an application unless you meet the following criteria:
1. Fenced in yard
2. Playful dog
3. Understand a dog that was a hoarder dog and is learning what life is about living in a home.
4. He is super smart, I would like to see his training continued for his benefit. If he can get past sounds and fears, he could be a therapy dog. He loves people!
5. Once the above is accomplished, he will be loyal to you for the rest of his life.
Are you the right family for my Ben Ben? If so please apply. Please make sure you write in the comments why you think Benny is the perfect fit.
