Observations with Dogs and Cats: He would prefer to be the only dog, but may do well with a female dog companion. Dante does not do well with cats.
Observation with Kids: Dante loves kids of all ages
Additional Information: This sweet dog has had a year filled with ups and downs. He first arrived at The Humane Society of Kent County after being seized by Animal Control. He had been living outside, tied up, with no shelter to protect him. Shortly after his arrival, he tested positive for heart worms. He was started on a regimen of medicine to start to kill the heart worms. He spent quite a few months in a kennel, while the staff worked hard to find him a foster family.
Finally, the day came and Dante went to a foster home where he continued his medicine and received lots of love. Dante spent the next several months very happy. But alas, that happiness did not last forever. Dante is now back at the shelter due to unforeseen circumstances (and no fault of his own). The good news is that he is now free of the heart worms and ready to be adopted.
Dante would do best in a quiet home. He is gentle by nature and great with people. He would be a great emotional support pet for someone. He walks nicely on a leash and he is obedient.
