Callie is a 2 year old beautiful, 42 pound bundle of energy.
Callie is a very intelligent pup. She came to the H2H holding kennel in an attempt to expose her to beneficial, new experiences including meeting unfamiliar dogs and interacting with many different people. This experience has helped to build Callie’s confidence and she is less fearful than she had been previously.
Callie can be people reactive until she is familiar with individuals and will need a human who is willing and confident to help her with proper introductions
Callie is very trainable and in addition to the traditional sit, stay, leave it type commands, she has learned several new, fun commands including jumping through a hoop, saying her “prayers” and playing dead.
Callie is the ideal companion for someone who wants to be very active with their canine friend. She would excel at agility, benefiting from both the physical challenge as well as the mental challenge it presents. While Callie is a big cuddle bug at times, it is necessary that her ideal family be willing to “give her a job”. Mindless running in a yard will create anxiety in her and walks would be beneficial but would not provide the mental challenge this little lady demands.
Callie is quite comfortable in a crate. She is an intense chewer and so will need to be crated when home alone. The crate provides a place where Callie feels safe and helps keep her human’s belongings intact :). The Kong, extreme toys, are best suited for Callie because of the intensity of her chewing.
Callie is very interested in playing with other dogs. Her high energy level and exceptional agility can be intimidating to other dogs and so slow introductions are necessary. She has been reactive to other dogs in the past but keeping her mind busy and exposing her safely to other dogs seems to be showing her that other dogs do not need to be feared. She is not good around young children due to her energy level. It appears she becomes distressed and may unintentionally knock children over.
With an appropriate investment of time, Callie is going to be an exceptional companion for the right human(s). With the right patient, confidence building human, Callie will find her balance of affection, enthusiasm and boundaries and we promise, her human(s) will never look back!!
As our dedicated volunteers continue to work with her, Callie keeps showing improvement. She truly will need a human who is very invested in building a strong dog/human relationship with her and will be committed to keeping her mind busy.
