Adopt a Tortoiseshell (short coat)
Maya the Cat needs a home
Maya (born in May 2016) is in a loving foster home, where she has learned that being inside in a safe, comfortable environment is much preferable to life in the outside colony where she was born, and was rescued from at an early age. She is still easily startled at times, but has become much more relaxed around people, lounging out in the open on furniture or in a cat bed, or jumping onto the couch next to a person to ask for petting; and under the right circumstances she may even ask to be picked up and held, or will give her belly for a gentle rub. Maya adores her toys, most of all her mouse toys, puff balls, "ball in the round track," and anything that involves dangling string. She loves to play fetch, or just "hang out" near her humans. She is a lovely cat, with a sweet face and beautiful tortoiseshell markings. Given time and patience to adjust to a new home, we feel confident she will form a deep bond with her adoptive family.
Maya has been tested negative for feline AIDS and leukemia, and is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. Her only need now is a home of her own. Maya does fine with other cats and the cat-friendly dog in her foster home, and might enjoy the company of another animal in her new home. Very young children might not be a good match for her at this time, but she might enjoy older children who will be patient enough to earn her trust and learn her favorite "games."
