Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Gus the Dog needs a home

Please contact Shanna ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.

When Gus's foster parents first went to meet him, Gus was understandably high strung but settled down quickly the first week. The first thing that they noticed about Gus was his extreme intelligence. He quickly located a toy basket that was hidden under a table and proceeded to nuzzle it out and raid it. It doesn't seem like he has had any formal training but he catches onto things very quickly. He is housebroken with only a few accidents in the beginning. He gets along with other dogs, as long as they are calm and give him space, but isn't really interested in playing with them. He hasn't shown any reaction to cats. Gus loves his toys and likes to show them off when anyone new comes into the house. He is also very fond of playing fetch with his ball. He likes to sleep in a nest that he makes out of a blanket at night. Most importantly, he is an extremely sweet and calm boy and loves to get pets and head scratches from his humans.

Gus's foster parents say, "We don't know much of anything about his background. He was estimated to be about six when we got him, but the vet believes him to be older. Gus came to us because of a severe skin condition and the need to put on weight. I am glad to say that he has gained weight and only needs to gain about another pound. Unfortunately despite weekly trips to the vet, bi-weekly baths and multiple medications we still haven't gotten to the bottom of his skin condition, so he will likely require more treatment. He has improved from where he was when he first came in, but we still have a ways to go. Right now Gus is eating, drinking and resting a lot to try to fight his condition. We can tell that he is often uncomfortable and hope to get him the help he needs soon so that he can just enjoy being a dog again."

Gus would do best in a home without young children.
He is very sweet 99% of the time, but when he's not feeling well he can give off some warning growl and needs a home that can recognize his space when he needs it.

Gus is available for adoption and is currently residing in one of our loving foster homes. Contact the foster parent today to learn more!

Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful!

Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label.
