Mario D3942 the Dog needs a home
Mario’s heart is almost as big as he is. Initially it was said that he did not know how to be a dog. Whatever life Mario had before arriving with us, we do not know but speculate that it was a very hard-working dog’s life. It seems to be all that he knew.
Mario bears the scars of a dog that has seen battle but he thinks nothing of it now. Mario needed to settle into his new environment before his true tenderness emerged. His skills were limited to what he needed to know then. But he is smart and very willing to learn, however a bit stubborn. The basics are coming along. He’s scent motivated as hounds are and this can also be a distraction for him when training. The nose drives this dog.
Mario plays very well with the other dogs here with proper introduction. He socializes well with people but may not be what some consider a lovebug. However, he is a great companion; the kind of dog you tell your secrets to and he seems to understand. A co-pilot that doesn’t care where you’re going as long as you take him along.
Mario is participating in our Rush to Rescue program, and he is currently being fostered by a pair of offenders at the Rush City Correctional Facility. While there, Mario will be attending a training program with a certified trainer and will be working on his commands with his handlers. Please contact us to find out more about Mario. Meet and greets can be arranged with a Wags & Whiskers volunteer in the prison lobby, adoption event, or other locations for an approved applicant.
