Seymour Sandwich Bread DelleBovi the Dog needs a home
"
We would like to give our last name DelleBovi for the new batch of rescues. Our reason for donating is simple, we love animals and recognized there were many that needed to be rescued from a life they did not choose. Adopting our dog Lexi (formerly Dinah Hoosier) on January 14th 2017 through Joyful Rescues has been an eye opening experience. The dedication and passion from the staff is remarkable to say the least. After losing our American Eskimo dog Nikki, our companion for 15 years the house felt empty and we decided to rescue and change a life. Lexi ran high-speed into our lives giving us love, companionship, and laughter every day which is priceless. We hope our donation helps to unite a dog in need with a family willing to go on a journey." Carol and Mark DelleB
Seymour Sandwich Bread was born about October 4, 2009 and weighs about 9 lbs. He is as cute as they come and has just been released from her puppy making days in a puppy mill in West Virginia. The "millers" made a call to the humane society and said they no longer needed the services of 29 dogs and would they take them. The shelter is a kill shelter due to space and could not handle so many dogs and so they asked if we would take them. How could we not! So, we squeezed and adjusted and were able to take them all and they are doing wonderfully. Still shy, some more than others, and will need house training. Some of their teeth were just horrendous and we will be have them cleaned once, but please understand that when teeth, in these small dogs, have been neglected this badly another cleaning or two is likely in the not so distant future. We love to rescue mill dogs as when you see them turn that corner and decide that they LOVE you, the human, you can see the sparkle in their eyes and it brings tears to our eyes. He is wonderful with the other dogs.
Here are updates from his foster family:
Seymour is learning to love life! His favorite things to do are exploring outside and taking walks. He is good on a leash. Seymour is working on being house trained and doesn't mind wearing a belly band. He loves mealtime (it's slow going with no teeth, but he is persistent). We think Seymour is mostly blind in one eye and has limited vision and depth perception. For now, he lives in the kitchen where he cuddles up in his favorite bed.
Seymour is learning to trust and will let me pet him when he feels safe in bed or on my lap. He doesn't mind being picked up or carried. He will usually run away if approached or when he is startled. After being quiet as a mouse he has started yipping and dancing to show the other dogs that he would like to play, but he is not sure what to do after that. He is good with cats, but has had no exposure to kids yet. Seymour is becoming braver every day.
Seymour loves eating and barks excitedly before meals. He is slowly getting used to being approached (avoiding eye contact and talking softly works best). Seymour really wanted to play but didn't understand the dog toys. I put some in nice smelly socks & now he's having a grand time.
Update 12/5/18
Seymour has made some big gains recently. He has begun to join us & the dogs on the living room couch for snuggle time. He surprised us by eating treats out of my hand then setting down and falling asleep with his chin on my leg!
