Adopt a American Bulldog / Mixed

This beautiful girl is a victim of breed discrimination, which is one of the reason why our shelters and rescues are overrun with “pit bull” type dogs. Casey was adopted as a puppy from a rural SC rescue to a loving family, and has lived in a good home her whole life. When Casey was a puppy there was no conflict with her living in the community, but as she grew, her family became more aware of the ignorance about her breed and bias of their HOA and neighbors.  

One day, Casey got out of the front door and saw one of the neighbor kids riding by on their bike and decided to run along with him. She never showed any aggression, or made contact with the boy, but the boy’s mom was terrified and complained to the HOA. There was a big uproar about the “pit bull” breed being allowed to live in the community and the family was pressured to remove her. 

Casey lived with the same family since she was 12 weeks old. She is kid friendly ++ and was raised with 5 kids, ages 2 to 13 years old. Her former owner describes her as a very snuggly dog, and she never had any concerns with Casey around the kids, she was very respectful. Casey loves to be near people, and was not left alone for long hours of time. When they did leave her alone, they would crate her, as she had some chewing tendencies as a puppy. She has not had a lot of exposure to leash walking, so she will need practice and some basic training on leash.

Casey is now in our care and her foster mom confirms that she is a lovely, affectionate, and social dog. She’s still an adolescent, but is pretty well-mannered for a young pup. She’s crate trained, potty trained, and knows her basic commands. She’s more of a submissive pup who loves other dogs and loves to play, and would be ideal with kids. She’s very people oriented and well socialized. As a young dog, she still has some things to learn like not to jump up when she gets too excited, but understands NO, and quickly corrects. She’s a smart girl who really wants to please.
