Dale Evans Drummer the Dog needs a home
This transport is to honor my husband, Gary Leaton. He loved old westerns, detective shows and Buddy Rich. He started playing drums when he was 5 years old and he practiced almost every day of his life. He named one of his dogs Drummer and he thought of himself as” Drummer”. So ------the DRUMMER transport.
Gary loved animals and donated to numerous animal rights organizations. He always felt he should be doing more to help abused or abandoned animals. He was very hard on himself because he couldn't save them all. He rescued the dog we had together when we got married, Master, from Lollipop Farm. When we lost Master to cancer, we got Logan from Joyful Rescues. Then 6 months later we added Haley to our family. They both enriched and added so much love and joy to our lives. We didn't know that Gary would have so little time with them. Just over a year with Logan and less with Haley. The only thing he wanted to do when he was in the hospital was come home to his “children” but it wasn't to be.
Gary would be so proud to know that lives were being saved because of him." ~Laura Leaton
Dale was born about November 2, 2008 and weighs about 12 lbs. She can be rather picky about her four legged friends and maybe would do best with one other small aloof dog or as an only dog. She adores her humans but we do not feel she should live with small children. We have no information on why she ended up at the high kill shelter, but she was a matted mess and just covered with fleas so now that she is healing and flea free her fur is growing back in and she'll be gorgeous again one day. She is happy, funny, and just loves to be loved. UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM: Dale is a lovely little girl. She is currently living with 9 other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She can get a bit grumpy with the others, mostly around food or her personal space. She couldn't care less about cats, and has adapted so well to her new environment in a foster home. She is very good about not having accidents in the house, and is about 85% of the way there. She does seem to enjoy having access to a crate, I think having the opportunity to curl up in some soft bedding and sleep quietly is something Dale enjoys. I also feed her in the crate to avoid any issues with her food. When she is awake, she loves spending time with all of us. She absolutely adores being held and pet. She also prefers to sleep in bed with her humans at night. She listens well and has good recall. This little lady will turn herself inside out for her humans; she is looking for a family who will adore her at least half as much as she loves them. Although she has a pretty good under bite, it doesn't impact her ability to eat and doesn't seem to give her discomfort. It does give her a lot of character, and her pictures do not do her justice. Dale loves going on car rides and for adventures, too.
