Hello all, I am Danica, a 9 year old, 14 pound Silky Terrier. It's been a long road to get to where I'm at with Underdog and I am ready for a life of love and fun.
As you can see from my photos, I am adorable. I am fun loving and have the cutest frolicking personality once I get comfortable. I have come so far; I blend in great now with my foster family, I will take food from my foster mom's hand, will go in and out of the patio door to potty and now I am much better and not as uncomfortable when company comes over anymore. I'm really comfortable with other dogs though! I love them and want a fur sibling in my future home. I'm good with dogs of all sizes, and there's so much I learn from my foster fur siblings it'll really help me blossom and be the dog I know I can be if I have one to learn from.
Right now I only go potty outside in a fenced yard. My foster mom is confident I could be a good leash walker with some practice, preferably once it warms up, brrr! I do enjoy a fenced in yard so much that I will need that in my furever home.
My foster mom is teaching me all sorts of dog skills, like how to stay, wait and a command word for "outside". I do not jump up on people and I also know “good girl” for positive reinforcement. She's also taught me what to do when she needs to wipe me off from outside, like snow or rain. I back right up and give her my paws. It's the cutest thing! I am house trained! I know how to go outside to do my business, and when I am home alone my foster mom keeps me in a pen with an open crate and pee pad, which I'll use if I have to potty when she's gone. I would probably be fine in the crate but it's not something my foster mom uses with me.
I wiggle my body because I am so happy to see my foster mom. I lick her fingers and am learning to trust more and more. Some things still make me nervous, like loud noise and too much commotion. I don't enjoy toys, the squeaking noise is too much! I am getting better, I have learned how to ignore outside noises more. I'm really showing how sweet I am, I aim to please! I want my future family to know that I will take some time to blossom but the wait will definitely be worth it.
I know the perfect patient and loving family is out there for me and I will wait for you!
Most of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.
