Adopt a Black and Tan Coonhound / Retriever / Mixed (short coat)
Toby the Dog needs a home
Courtesy post....
Toby is a handsome, neutered male rescue. Toby is a Hound mix, medium sized dog - about the height of a Lab, but with a slighter build. He is very athletic, dextrous and bright. He's maybe 2-3 years old.
He seems to be well socialized with all dogs, small and large. He absolutely adores pack life, and loves to be part of the family's activities. Toby would be over the moon to have at least one other large, younger, playful dog in his forever home, as
he enjoys to play chase and wrestle games with dogs, but is also very respectful when other dogs are telling him to back off. He does not engage in conflict. He does well with small dogs, but he's so eager to play most of the time and the little guys in his current foster home are older, and some have mobility/health issues, so don't often accept his advances for play. There is a younger large dog that stays at the foster home a fair amount of time and they became thick as thieves quite quickly, leap frogging each other, boxing like kangaroos, ripping around the yard as fast as can be and rolling around the ground together. Toby does like a good game of fetch as well. A second dog in the home would also be a great comfort to him when his family is out. He does seem to settle well indoors and is crate trained. He's comfortable crated when his foster brothers and sisters who live there permanently are not. A crate would be a beneficial tool while Toby adjusts to his new home and learns good house etiquette and his new household's routine. He bonds quickly to his handler/caregiver and is eager to please. He has a sweet side to him as well, enjoying pats, massages and leaning against his handler. He's learning commands steadily and his leash skills have improved immensely in just a week's time. Toby can be wary of strangers until he is introduced, and then seems fine. He may not do well with some kids. He is a bit of a watch dog, and barks when strangers come on the property, he hears unfamiliar noises or sees unfamiliar sights on the property. No cats or other small pets as he does have a strong prey drive and will chase.
Toby's ideal family would be adults or a family with calm, respectful, dog-comfortable teens and at least one other dog. A secured yard or play run is a must.
