Adopt a Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler
Romeo the Dog needs a home
Little Romeo embraces life with joy and enthusiasm. Whether he is wrestling with the “big dogs”, running carefree through the backyard, or desperately trying to find those elusive cats, he looks and acts just like any other puppy. However, Romy was born with multiple strikes against him. He is blind and has a severe heart defect that requires medication. Despite this, Romeo’s wonderful personality wins the hearts of everyone he meets. His limitations do not hold him back. He loves people and he greets everyone with a special spinning dance when they walk in the door. While he cannot see, his ears and his nose give him all the information he needs about his world. Don’t try to sneak a snack – although you think he is sound asleep, he will smell it and be next to you in seconds asking to share! He loves going on walks, playing with his squeaky toys and chewing on his bone next to the other dogs. He is not big on cuddling, he wants to be on the go and part of the action. When he gets sleepy, though, you may get lucky and get to cuddle. Romeo is absolutely perfect!
Romeo is looking for a very special forever home. He loves other dogs and would really love to find a family with another dog to live with. He also loves to run free, but since he is blind a fenced yard would be preferred to keep him safe. Previous experience with blind dogs would be a plus but not necessary – just a willingness to learn! Cattle dogs are smart and he can be trained to do anything sighted dogs can do. In fact, this breed needs mental stimulation to be happy. He will need his medications and follow up monitoring of his heart. If you think Romeo might be a match for you, we can set up a meeting. He just might steal your heart!!
HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.?
