Adopt a Labrador Retriever (short coat)
Finnegan the Dog needs a home
We will be doing adoptions on Saturday, February 17th and Sunday, February 18th from 12-4pm at Palo Alto Pet Food Express. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated and microchipped.
* If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. * We do not have a facility. All dogs live in foster homes. Arrangements to meet dogs occur after an approved application has been accepted. * We do not ship our dogs for any reason. * Our adoption fee is $400 for each dog/puppy. * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on @DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: www.facebook.com/DPSRescue
This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-4pm on Sat. Feb. 17th & Sun. Feb. 18th or until adopted. If interested, please fill out an application if you would like the first opportunity to meet prior to the start of the event. (We will pre-approve one home to meet per dog.)
Finnegan (better known as Finn) is a 1 1/2 year old Lab (possibly purebred, but we don't know for sure) who is all that is great and all that is... challenging!... about the Lab breed. He is absolutely adorable, without question, and loving and affectionate and friendly with both people and with dogs of all sizes. He also weighs 75-80 lbs, is a giant puppy, and has NO concept of his size at all. If you ask him, he'd tell you that he's about 15 lbs and can just jump up into your lap!
Finn was found as a stray and ended up in the shelter, where he was going a bit stir-crazy in his kennel, so we broke him outta there. It was clear from the moment go that Finn has had zero training. He's an oversized baby who thinks that jumping up and putting his gigantic paws right on your chest is the best way to say hello. Every single item in your home is a toy, from the blanket to the broom. If it can fit into his mouth or get knocked over, that's what will happen. He's got boundless energy and would be an ideal fit for a home that wants a buddy for biking, hiking, running, etc. He will need plenty of exercise every single day! This is a dog who will need 1-2 hours possibly more until he is trained of exercise and hard exercise. He mowed over people at the dog park his first morning so it will have to be a home that is willing to work with him until he learns basic manners and won't be intimidated to explain to people he's in training!
The up-side is that Finn is incredibly trainable. It took him about 2 minutes to learn "down" from our volunteers and he has already mastered "sit." He is very food and treat motivated and eager to please. He wants to make you happy-- he just doesn't know the rules of basic good doggy behavior yet.
Finn is ONLY an option for a family that is willing and eager to take him to training classes AND who has big dog experience and has had a dog in the last 3 years. He needs a firm hand who is okay with telling him no and with crating him when necessary. If there are children in the home, they need to be over the age of 10; he can easily knock over both small children and petite adults.
