Adopt a Leonberger / Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed
Forrest 0404 the Dog needs a home
Forrest has a very sweet, gentle personality--he's a bit of a goof ball, and very easy going. He likes to do what everyone else is doing, and his favorite toys are whatever other dogs are playing with, even if it's just a shredded tennis ball someone just destroyed.
Forrest is a typical young dog, and is exhibiting what is normal "young dog" behaviors, i.e. picking up and/or chewing on random items left around. He loves kids, however, our only concern with small children is that they could be knocked down as he runs through the house. He also is not good with cats.
Forrest has exhibited no aggressive behavior at all. He is submissive to most other dogs, tends to follow along, and respects boundaries. He gallops through the house either following the pack or trying to initiate play. He swats with his paw when trying to get attention or play. He's a cuddle bug and will readily climb into a vacant lap.
Forrest eats whatever you put in front of him very quickly. He has had no accidents in his crate or the house. Forrest stands beautifully and is very cooperative at bath time. He definitely doesn't like being alone, but not at the anxiety level, just prefers company. Forrest is crate trained; however, he does not appear to have had any other sort of training. He has learned "sit" and we are working on other things. He is very food motivated so training should be easy. He will go wherever you lead him on the leash, and he does not pull.
Forrest has been neutered and is healing well. He is up-to-date for core vaccines, and he is negative for heartworms and intestinal parasites. He is now on heartworm, and flea/tick preventatives. The veterinarian said his skin and coat are in poor condition due to a lack of good nutrition. This is being remedied with a good quality diet and fish oil supplements. It has been suggested that he may be a Leonberger or Anatolian Shepherd mix and he has the appearance of those breeds, but not the size. He would have to be mixed with something much smaller as those breeds are large to giant sized. His kennel card from the shelter says Cattle Dog Mix, that's as good a guess as any.
The ideal family would have another dog he could properly be introduced to, or a home where someone is home during the day. He is a follower and takes his cues from human or canine companions, whines when left alone. Obedience classes are recommended for socialization and bonding with the new owner. Forrest is easy going
and
will make a great family pet.
