Domestic Short Hair Cat

Mao the Cat needs a home

Chatty, Sociable, Independent Mao lost her forever home when her owner moved and couldn't take her along. She is used to being an only cat and doesn't care for another cat in her space - and will hiss to tell them so! However, she's not aggressive, so it is possible that over time she could learn to live with a mellow cat who would allow her to be the Boss of Them. It's a role she is used to, has perfected, and fits her to a t! Once Mao gets through the getting-to-know-you period, she will be super friendly! She seems never to be at a loss for words, and will talk to you about everything - in fact, she can be kind of a goofball as she flops on the floor near you for some petting, meowing (Mao-ing?) up a storm; she has some boundaries about where she likes to be petted, but they are easily learned and navigated. During downtime she becomes your snuggle buddy - and will let you pet her tummy, once she has decided that you do it correctly! We think she would be the perfect companion for someone who works from home or has a schedule that allows them to be home more often. She likes to hang out with her people! Mao is great with cardboard scratchers and will give crinkle balls and catnip toys a run for their money! Her current favorite toy is a blue fuzzy ball that she chases around the house. And watching birds from a sunny window is a great sport for her, too. Otherwise, she is content to find a safe spot to nap where she can keep an eye on everything going on. The ideal home for Mao would be quiet and orderly; she will be jumpy in a new environment for a while, but eventually she will settle in. Have patience, give her time, and she will reward you with her cuddles and companionship. She may be okay around a calm dog who completely ignores her, and prefers her humans as adults or older kids who know how to respect her boundaries, petting and playing with her appropriately. Mao isn't just an orange tabby female - which in itself is rather uncommon, since only about 20% of orange tabbies are female - she has scrumptious, Dreamsicle-like coloring and pretty facial features! We love Mao! Contact us today to meet her. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
