Adopt a Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)
JJ the Dog needs a home
Meet JJ! This handsome fellow is looking for his forever home. He’s a very sweet boy, a little shy at first, but all he wants is love and affection. Once he trusts you, he is so happy to roll over for a belly rub, or play tug with his favorite stuffed toy. JJ is being fostered with other dogs, both large and small, and is particularly fond of the 10lb Pomeranian in his home. He is crate trained and picked up housetraining right away. He’s also dog-friendly, and a gentle soul who would do best with calmer dog, as he’s not a fan of roughhousing.
JJ came from a sad situation, and was kept in small pen outside most of his life. He was penned with another dog named Cooper, so he wasn’t totally alone, but Cooper could be a little rough with him sometimes, so he’s cautious when he first meets a larger dog. Their pen was filled with feces, dirty water, and a dilapidated doghouse, and they were an afterthought to their family who left them to fend for themselves. Our SC team extended their pen, brought them straw during the winter, and really tried to make their lives better, but always hoped to get them out someday. Sadly, Copper died, and JJ was left all alone, so his owner agreed to release him and let him have a better life.
It is clear that JJ is grateful to lay down in a warm bed each night. He has adjusted quickly to home life, and with each day he comes further out of his shell. He is quiet and subdued in the house, but he loves to prance around the yard and explore, so a home with a fenced yard would be ideal. He has a very sweet personality and will cuddle up and roll over for belly rubs, but loud noises and fast movements startle him. He is learning leash walking skills and will need to continue to practice to perfect it. He’s wonderful in his crate, and his foster family has been feeding him in the crate to make sure he has a positive association with it.
Thankfully, JJ is in great health, but he does have a few missing and broken teeth from chewing on rocks, chain links, etc. They do not affect him, but his foster dad will moisten his food or mix in wet food to make eating a little easier. His most favorite thing to do is to play with stuffed toys, and loves to prance his squeaky cow around the yard. He has a moderate energy level and does need exercise, but he’s not hyper. He feels most comfortable in the yard, which is understandable, and he also responds well to his name and usually comes right over.
JJ is such a special, unique and loving boy and he deserves an equally awesome forever family!
We are looking for a FOSTER or ADOPTER for JJ to welcome him when he comes to town on 2/17/18.

You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to http://foster.worthydog.org and fill out an application.
