1/25/18: Cuddy is quite possibly the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. His signature move is to stand next to someone and just lean into them. He LOVES people and is very dog-friendly. 

Cuddy wasn’t feeling well when he came to the rescue. He was very stressed and underweight; he didn’t want to eat as his whole head hurt from a need for a dental check and chronic ear infections that he probably had for years. He has since received a dental and his ear infections are now under control; that along with a much-needed spa day and he seems like a whole new dog. He may be a senior, but he has proven that age is just a number. Cuddy is still very much young at heart and still longs for adventure.

When I first started fostering him, he wasn’t feeling very well but he loved to be outside. So I let him hang outside while I was inside the house one afternoon; he typically just likes to lay down and enjoy the breeze; plus, he’s a senior dog and can’t get into much trouble, right?! I heard him whining a bit so I went outside and there were electricians working on my neighbor’s house; just on the other side of the 4-foot chain link fence. He really wanted their attention and they would pet him from over the fence, it was pretty cute. I went back inside and a few minutes later the doorbell rang and one of the electricians pointed to Cuddy who was somehow now in my front yard. Apparently, he had carefully climbed over the 4-foot fence to get closer to the electricians as head rubs over the fence were no longer good enough. I was able to get him back in the house where he proceeded to take a nice long nap on the couch after his adventure.

A few weeks later, he was feeling much better and we had all but forgotten his previous adventure; he never tried to escape through the door or otherwise try to get out again. Plus my neighbor just happened to replace her fence with a nice 6-foot tall wood fence. I was home for lunch and reached out on my front door stoop to retrieve a package and Cuddy pushed the door open and trotted down the street like a majestic horse. I was so stunned, but I yelled for him and he ignored me as he went on his second adventure. It took me a frantic 20 minutes, in minus ten degree weather. I found him a couple blocks away after I was knee deep in snow and he had ignored my calling his name up until that time. Again, we went home and he took a long nap after his adventure.

Cuddy’s ideal home would include a six-foot-tall fence to allow him the freedom of spending his time outside laying down and patrolling the yard without giving him any ideas about adventuring out on his own.

Cuddy loves to be around people and would love to be with them always; he will follow you around and just plop down to be near you. His ideal home would include older and more respectful children due to his age; he’s not as flexible as he used to be. But don’t let his age fool you, he’s a spry senior with a LOT of love left to give!
