Hello, my name is Lucy, my foster mom says I am a big girl! I weigh about 68lbs, my people think I am a bloodhound/ coonhound mix.
I was a stray at a local impound where I sat for 5 months waiting for a home! Luckily, Ruff Start Rescue stepped up to take me so I could continue my search for a forever home while being in a home!
I have a lot of energy and love to play! I get along with other dogs with proper introductions. I can be growly at first especially if I am on my leash. I live with other dogs big and small at home.
I have a very high prey drive and mom says I can be a little obsessive about chasing small critters if I see them. I have caught a bird flying which I thought was great but mom said was naughty. so I need to be kept away from small critters and cats!
I am also all hound so my nose tends to get the best of me. If I smell something I like that I want to find out more about I do my darndest to find that smell, which could get me into some trouble if my people are not super careful.
Due to my prey drive and my love to follow my nose I do need a furever home with a fenced in yard, for my safety! This is a requirement for my family. Mom says it has to be a physical fence and not an electric fence as she does not think the electric fence would work for me.
I do not live with any kids right now but older children my people think would be just fine. I am a big girl so I might knock kids over and when I play I like to mouth even though its very gentle it may not go well with younger kids. I can also be moody at times when in my kennel or when someone tries to cuddle with me when I want my own time/space. However most the time I am super cuddly.
I sleep in a kennel at night and when my family is away, I do well in there and even go in on command, however I do let my parents know with some hound howls when I do not want to be in there. I go potty outside like a good girl, I started having accidents while relaxing or sleeping so the doctor put me on medicine I eat like a treat everyday to help and so far I haven't had an accident yet!
I enjoy going for walks and walk well if I am wearing a gentle leader, if I am not wearing one I will pull you all over so I can sniff all the smells.
Because of my few quirks I should have an experienced owner who can be patient with me. I am a great listener when you are able to get my attention but my attention is usually on the squirrel two houses down and not on mom and dad.
If you don't mind a little drool, have no kitties/small critters, and you are an experienced dog owner with a fenced in yard, and don't mind a 68lbs doggy on your lap I may be your girl.
XOXO,
Lucy
