Adopt a Lhasa Apso (medium coat)
Magnolia the Dog needs a home
She is a dear little girl that will require a special home with a lot of patience and understanding. She has lived several years of her life in a cage. Her main purpose before arriving in our care was to breed. Her trust in humans was severely damaged during this time period. Therefore, she requires a very special adopter that will give her space, time, and understanding that she needs to heal.
When she first arrived in her foster home, she would hide and would turn her head to face the wall or back of her crate. She couldn't even look at us. Any physical contact would result in her losing her bowels. She will still, on occasion, do this if faced with a new or fearful situation. This is slowly improving. Initially, she was so terrified when she felt trapped that she would consider biting, but this has not been a problem for the first 2 months and was only done from fear, not aggression.
Magnolia has been in my foster care for 9 months now and although she has come a long way, she has a long way to go. Mags is learning how to be a dog, and she learns everything from my 2 dogs. She follows their every move and must be near them at all times. She MUST be adopted to a home that has a dog that will enable her to progress in her rehabilitation.
Also, because of this abject fear, Mags also needs to be placed in a quiet home with no children. A single person or retired couple with another small dog would be ideal. She does not do well with being left alone.
When Mags first came to us, she did not understand the house training concept, which is normal for a mill dog but over time she has mastered this as long as she is in a familiar environment. She may regress somewhat when she starts out in a new home again, but I am confident she will quickly get back to her routine.
Mags has a non-shedding coat, so she will need regular visits to the groomer but with her abject fear of humans, this is currently a challenge we are still working through. Her last groom was completed under anesthetic at the vets. Prior to that, she had partial grooms with our groomer. She will need to continue to gain her trust in humans to make this less of a traumatic experience.
Nevertheless, her trust in humans is very slowing improving and she is showing signs that she's ready to learn and grow. Magnolia is a happy girl and starting to enjoying her new life. She is very curious about the world around her and doesn't want to miss out on anything. She is starting to figure out what toys are for and enjoys some play time, its great to watch this gentle soul start to enjoy her life.
She LOVES to run around the backyard with our dogs and is also learning how to walk on a leash. She gets excited now when she knows its walk time. Although Mags is still very skittish and still does not allow any petting or human contact yet, she always wants to be in the same room as us and will sometimes join us on the couch at a safe distance. She has a very hard time relaxing and is always on guard to make sure she is safe, She will sometimes approach me when I'm sitting down and she is now happy to accept a good treat right from our hands. She is still trying hard to understand these humans that have been so nice to her.
She is a very brave girl and needs a loving and patient home that will provide her the time, kindness, guidance, and love that she greatly requires at this time. We feel there is a special person or couple out there that will give Magnolia this kind of home that will enable her to thrive and enjoy life to the fullest.
Mags has been spayed, dewormed, vaccinated, heartworm checked, treated with Revolution, microchipped, and received a full dental. Her adoption fee is $375 includes her health records.
