Adopt a Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat)

Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat) Dog

Spanky the Dog needs a home

Howdy folks!! If you're looking for a sweet little guy that's me!!! In fact, I'm snoozing on the sofa now and loving it!!  One thing I do need to mention is that I am terrified of my foster dad. We are working on getting along, but I'm still very scared of my foster dad even if I know he would never harm.  So, if I'm adopted into a family where I'll have a foster dad it may take a little time before I accept my new dad. My foster mom thinks I may have been abused by men. I will bark and growl a little at my foster dad and at this point I will not approach him. My tail is between my legs and I'm just scared. When my foster dad approaches me with a treats I will run away and hide under the bed. I show no aggression at all as far as wanting to bite my foster dad and honestly I do want to make friends, but it may take me a while.

I was wondering in Melrose Park filthy, extremely matted and so lonely and sad. I'm told the smell of my matted fur was horrible. Well, no longer. I've been shaved and when my fur grows back I'm going to be even more handsome!

My angel came along one day at the park by the name of Melissa Melvin, and saved me along with my buddy Riley. I sure miss my friend Riley, but happy that better days are ahead for both of us. Riley will be heading to Minnesota where his forever home will be waiting for him. Gosh, wonder what he's going to think about all that snow.

I  love sleeping in my crate at night next to my foster parents bed as long as the crate door is open. I'm really funny about that.

My foster family wonders if perhaps I was a loved pet at one time, but somehow excaped from a family never to be found by them because I had no indentifaction on me. I don't want to admit it, but yes, I do beg for food when you are eating.  So, it appears as if I was fed human food at one time. Like my foster mom says, if I have any 'downfalls' that would be begging for food and honestly my foster mom doesn't think it's an issue at all. Oh, if you're at the kitchen counter preparing any type of food you can bet I'll be there sitting and watching your every move. Oh, and if you leave food where I can get to it I will eat it. Okay, I'm not proud of this, but I did eat part of my foster mom's sandwich when she left it on a table next to her chair. It was DELICIOUS!!  She went to get more water and I jumped up on her chair and started munching on that delicioius sandwich. I couldn't help myself. My foster mom makes the best sandwiches!!!  Anyway, something my new forever family will have to pay attention to if they want the entire sandwich for themselves.

I follow my foster mom all over the house. I just want to be sure she's safe. :) After all, it is my job as a dog to be brave and protective.

I get along with children and other dogs, but not sure about cats. My foster mom seems to think I wouldn't have issues with cats either.  I'm really laid back.

When I first came into my foster home I was so shy and scared, but as time goes by I become more and more trusting. Living on the streets of Houston is frightening and dogs lose trust eaisly, but all that is behind me now and brighter days are ahead and it all started with Melissa of Melrose Park. She has saved so many dogs!!!

I love my foster home and family, but like every dog I want a loving forever home to call my very own. I will make a wonderful compainion!!!!

My foster mom said if you have any questions please feel free to email her at the email below.

Oh, and one other thing. I'm not real big on baths and sometimes not the perfect gentleman, but I am getting better.

Love Spanky!!!!

Spanky was picked up wandering around Melrose Park with a little Lab friend.   Spanky was a matted mess.   AARF Houston took him on, shaved off all the nasty stuff and made sure he was vetted so he would be on his way to a healthy happy future.

Spanky is low Heart Worm positive and is on treatment.

Please contact [email protected] for more information about this dog.
You can apply online at www.aarfhouston.org/forms . Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet. Thank you for considering a rescue!

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip.

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.
