Adopt a Schipperke / Mixed (medium coat)

Angel the Dog needs a home
We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
Angel is a 7-8year old spayed female Schipperke mix who weighed in at 7 pounds when she arrived and was skin and bones. She came to ARF terrified and covered in a blanket of fleas. When bathed and rid of fleas, you could see that she had skin infections from all the scratching and biting trying to rid herself of all the fleas. Angel had huge patches of missing hair all up and down her body, around her eyes, her ears, and her neck. She looked terrible, felt terrible, and she was anemic—her gums were ghostly white and she was so lethargic. A few months later all her hair has grown back in and she has gained 5#—now she could stand to loose 2# the vet says.
Her days living outdoors, fighting for her own survival have caused her to resource guard her food from other animals, she will also eat whatever food she finds thus her rapid weight gain—if let be, she will over eat even when not hungry. She is tentative with humans petting, patting, scratching her back end whether due to the onset of arthritis or fear from past poor treatment from humans. Over the last couple months whether on anti-inflammatories or not, the more she trusts me, the less she reacts from any perceived. “pain response” to an unusual touch of mine. She may not want her human constantly patting her all the time but she does want to snuggle with her human all day/night. She loves cuddling up on her person, next to, inter-twined with her person on the sofa as well as in bed.
Angel's ideal forever home would be a quiet home without a lot of activity. She would prefer a single mom if she got to pick, and would love to be the sole recipient of her mom’s love and attention - not having to share it with another dog. Homes with children will not be considered. If you fit this description and feel her tugging at your heart, please fill out an application to meet this little Angel!
