Sammie's Friends is a 501©(3) non-profit corporation. We provide medical care for the animals at the Nevada County Shelter, making them adoptable, and we support other disadvantaged animals in Nevada County that would otherwise be euthanized to end their suffering. Sammie's Friends also operates the Nevada County Animal Shelter. WE ARE A NO KILL SHELTER!

THINGS YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT RUSTY:
Rusty was found on the streets at 1 year old with broken bones, and a broken spirit. The family that found and kept him took very good care of him for 6 years and healed his broken bones and broken spirit. It was a long and difficult journey, as Rusty's trust was at zero in the beginning. Though hard work and dedication, Rusty is about 90% healed.
The one thing he has held onto is what trainers call "barrier aggression." He guards his "sacred sleeping area." If outside his bed area, he is sweet, loving and playful. When in his area, he is guarded and will warn or even bite if pushed. He has been in foster care for weeks with ZERO incidence, because we absolutely let him have his space.
Rusty arrived very depressed about losing his family. They chose not to take him when they moved out of country. After a few days he rallied, and became an active and loving member of his foster family, including 7 other dogs!
WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE VERY SPECIAL HOME THAT WILL ALLOW RUSTY TO BE HIMSELF. HE IS SO ADORABLE AND SWEET. BUT HE MUST BE ALLOWED TO HAVE HIS 'SACRED SPACE" AND IT NOT BE INVADED. AT MY HOME, IT IS A SMALL 1X3 FT AREA WITH A WIRE FENCE AROUND IT.
