Adopt a Labrador Retriever / Mixed

Simba has been with us for several weeks now.  It took a while for his true personality to emerge.  Simba wanted to trust people but was very fearful of them.  With a little patience and perseverance, this frightened little boy emerged into quite the charming young pup.   Getting to know him has been a great experience. No matter how old he gets, he will always keep you on your toes. 

Simba is a high-energy dog.  He is also VERY smart and needs to keep his mind occupied with a job, play or exercise.  Simba appreciates attention and will happily revert to antics that will get him noticed if he’s not kept busy.  He especially appreciates praise and will do just about anything to earn it.  He is a sponge, eager to learn and catches on quickly. 

Simba came to us somewhat anxious.  Once he felt safe, he let down his guard and relaxed a bit.  By learning new tricks, he gained confidence and is now the ‘biggest, proudest dog in the house’.  Simba enjoys his toys, stuffed animals, balls, chew toys.  Simba plays well with other dogs; one on one (without toys is recommended).  He can be managed with a larger group of dogs but can sometimes revert to a fear mechanism and can act out.  

Simba is compact but quite solid.  He runs, and runs, and runs but when he rests, he crashes.  He is quite the cuddler when he isn’t in motion, likes sleeping in and goes right into his crate on his own when he’s tired and ready for a nap.  Simba is learning basic commands and has quite the assortment of other little tricks.  He is much better performing when not distracted.  In a controlled environment, it’s difficult to know how he’ll do left alone in the house.  Simba is crate and house trained and patiently hoping that you are the person he’s waiting for.  

Simba is participating in our Rush to Rescue program, and he is currently being fostered by a pair of offenders at the Rush City Correctional Facility. While there, Simba will be attending a training program with a certified trainer and will be working on his commands with his handlers. Please contact us to find out more about Simba.
