Hi Everyone!

My name is Wayne, I am a estimated 3 year old 11.3 lb chihuahua. I came to ruff start after I was at risk of being put down at a local pound where I was taken after being found as a stray. I was so scared at the shelter that I didn't allow the workers to interact with me. After coming to Ruff I have completely opened up and I am loving life.

I follow my foster parents around and love cuddling with them. My favorite is when my mom holds me and carries me around like a little baby and I give her kisses on her nose. I am my moms shadow no matter what she is doing. 

Toys are great and a I love to carry them around and shake them all over! I am very playful and act a lot like a puppy still. Sometimes I will even steal a shoe or two.

I sleep in a crate at night and when my family is away. I do well in there only complaining about it once and a while. Sometimes I get to sleep in bed with my humans and I love that!  I do good with going potty outside but will sometimes mark things especially if I am in a new area or a new doggy has visited my house. 

I live with other dogs big and small. I do great with the small dogs but tend to pick on the bigger dogs. So a home with smaller dogs would be best. Being with other small dogs gives me more confidence and helps me feel more comfortable. My mom doesn't have a kitty but she thinks I would do fine with them. 

Due to me being fearful with new people I should go to a home with older kids or no kids, I do tend to get so nervous around new people that I bark and growl at them. With time I get used to them and slowly build trust. My new family needs to be okay with me not wanting to be their best friend at first but know with some patience and a lot of treats I will eventually never leave your side, I promise I am worth the wait. I should go to a quiet home that doesn't have a ton of visitors as I will let visitors know I do not want them there.

 I am scared of storms and loud noises and will try to hide under furniture. Because I am easily startled and not good with new people/ bigger animals I do need to be kept in a fenced in area or leashed at all times when outside, I will explore if left unleashed. 

If you are a furever home that wants a cute little guy who follows you all over, super cuddly, and you are patient, and okay with me not liking strangers I could be your guy!

All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept.
