Steve the Cat needs a home
Steve was placed in foster at Rally C Ranch with a group of 24 cats that Austin Pets Alive! rescued from Wharton County. Steve's paperwork said he was "feral and "kind of a jerk. Well, Steve is definitely not feral and will chose neck rubs and pets even over cookies! Steve did show some of the behaviors that earned him the "jerk" label. He got overwhelmed and over stimulated and would scratch and try to bite through his kennel. He was desperate for human attention and didn't know how to get attention appropriately. In an effort to put a positive spin - he was named Steve from Steve Martin in "The Jerk!" Steve is actually not a jerk at all. He is a very loving cat who is just desperate for attention and interaction! Steve is always the first one to start talking to his fosters and loves to talk about his day with them! As Steve has settled in and the number of foster cats living at Rally C Ranch has gone down, Steve has earned more time out of his kennel to play with some of the other kitties. He helps with evening chores, loves playing with toys and the more time he gets to play and interact, the better his behavior gets. He is such a lovebug with his fosters and does great with other male cats. He hasn't been around female cats yet, but he is wonderful with the male cats he should be great! He still gets a little bit excited and sometimes reaches out to his humans without remembering to bring his claws in... but he just really wants to be loved! Steve's fosters run a horse rescue and visitors to the ranch quite often, many of whom, get to meet Steve. He prefers people who understand cat behavior and can read his signals when he is getting too excited. He also prefers people with calm, relaxed energy. He feeds off high energy people and that sometimes contributes to him getting overwhelmed. In the right family, this guy will fully shed the inaccurate shelter labels of "feral" and "kind of a jerk" and blossom into the most amazing and loving cat! Steve is one of hundreds of cats and kittens that APA! has rescued from the perils of Hurricane Harvey. Most of these kitties are up for adoption and in need of a forever home. The greatest result of a rescue is the creation of loving relationships. Share in this joy with us and adopt a cat or kitten and create your own rescue love story!
