When I think of a German Shepherd Dog, I think of strength, courage, determination, and loyalty. These are all off the qualities that Amara has. If it weren't for her strength and courage, she wouldn't be here today. Amara was run over by a car in Egypt, when she was only a few months old, and left to fend for herself. SGSR was asked to help Amara, readily agreed and the rescue in Cairo arranged to get her to the United States. Everyone was in agreement that Amara would have better opportunities here in America. The damage that done to her rear legs is not repairable, but Amara doesn't let anything hold her back from living life. She has no idea anything is wrong with her legs and gets around beautifully in her wheelchair. Amara thinks she is the queen of her castle, and I believe her strong personality and determination is what kept her alive during her weakest moments. Amara also has a minor heart condition that shouldn't cause any issues in the future, but her heart should be checked out yearly at her routine vet visit. Amara loves other dogs and would do best in a one-level home. This social butterfly hates to be left out of any situation. She prefers to scoot around without her chair while she is in the house, and let me be the first to tell you this girl is fast as lightning! Don't let her injury fool you; she will be the first one in the kitchen at meal time. Amara is a sweet girl that loves to snuggle with her people and other dogs. Her favorite things are a soft, comfortable bed, and toys that squeak. And food…oh, how she loves food! Amara will need a little extra help when it comes to potty time…you have to allow for a few extra minutes to get in her wheelchair to potty. She is about 6 months old, up to date on vaccinations and spayed. Because she was so tiny after being injured, her rescuers in Egypt kept her in the cat room, so she’s fine with having a feline friend.
