Mishka the Dog needs a home
Meet Mishka! This awesome pup was found as a stray by animal control and has been in a foster home in W VA for almost 6 months. She’s being fostered with 4 other dogs (2 large and 2 small) and prefers to play with the larger dogs. She’s a little rough and tumble in her play for the small dogs, but is getting better with respecting their space. She was just cat tested and did great, she had no reaction or instinct to chase the kitty.
Mishka is crate trained, house trained, and will let you know when she has to go out to potty, jumping at the door to alert you. She even taught herself to ring the bell to go outside She has free roam of the home when her foster family is home, but is crated during the day when the family works, and sleeps in the bed at night with the rest of her foster pack. She has a food obsession, most likely from going without in the past, so her foster family feeds her separately from the other dogs, but she has zero guarding issues with people when it comes to food, toys, or bones.
Her foster mom says she’s very smart and responds well to verbal correction. She’s still perfecting her leash walking skills and does better walking on a harness, but practice makes perfect and we expect her to be an excellent student when she comes to N. VA. She's a very smart dog who adapts to her surroundings. She is consistently around the 84 year old grandmother who visits and has stability issues, and Mischka is respectful of her space. She does not jump around her and adjusts her behavior
Mishka has a moderate energy level, so she is up for hikes or an outing, but is also a great chill-out dog who loves to snuggle. You will rarely catch her laying by herself in the home, as she is always snuggled up with a person or one of the dogs. Mishka is definitely a people-pleaser and a confident dog. She loves meeting new people, and will roll over for a belly rub and give a high five.
Mishka’s foster mom describes her as a silly, quirky, fun, lovable freckle-faced kid. We hope to bring her to N. VA soon and are looking for a FOSTER or ADOPTER to welcome her to town.

You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes.
