And now, a few words from me:

Hi, I’m Avery!  I can’t believe this new world I’ve arrived at – living with nice people who have a back yard with grass I can romp in, feed me yummy food and treats, and pet me so very gently!  It’s hard to believe and trust right now, but I’m so curious to find out what other good things are coming my way.  Is this how it is at your house?  If so, maybe we should meet!  

And now, a few words from my foster mom:

Avery is a sweet girl who is still nervous with people, but who is becoming more comfortable with each day that passes.  Avery is learning the ropes about what it is like to live in a home for the first time – running on the grass and using stairs are challenges that she is getting comfortable with, pottying outside is still a work in progress, but she is using a pee pad with some success.  Leash walking is still new for her, so a fully fenced back yard will be important to enable her to get some exercise.  She is great in the car and settles down nicely in a crate.  She is learning to trust people, and is already welcoming (and even asking for) ear scratches and belly rubs.  She seems excited when her foster parents arrive home after being away for a while and she dances around.  Her little nub of a tail goes a mile a minute when you speak to her sweetly.  Sudden noises or movements still startle her, but in time she should grow more used to the normal movements in a home. 

Avery would benefit from another dog in her forever home to teach her the ropes and act as a good example.  She will probably end up being the alpha dog despite her sweetness however – she currently has another foster sibling and seems to lead the play times, be the first one to explore something new, or wants to be the one getting pets from the humans.  She does like to snuggle with her foster sister in the same bed.
