Meet Helmut.  This serious gentleman recently found himself in a poor rural shelter where he was identified as an overly matted senior who was having difficulty walking. He was lucky enough to be rescued and come to the DC area in the hopes of having a better chance at a great life.    

Helmut is a sweet little guy who is quiet, housebroken, crate trained, gentle, dog friendly and just a dream. While he still seems a little bit sad, we think he will perk right up with a family to call his own!

Helmut was in such bad shape when he came into our care. He was overdue for a dental cleaning and needed some teeth extracted that were causing him pain. He was week and was having trouble walking and even standing up and had some
arthritis and muscle atrophy that were impacting his mobility.

UPDATE 

Helmut had a dental and multiple extractions, and is free of pain and eating much better. He is on meds for pain and arthritis, and is much more mobile now too. Our vet did discover a mass in his spleen, and we are in the process of getting a 2nd opinion to determine if he is healthy enough for a splenectomy, or to see if we can better identify and qualify the mass. He is on medical hold until we know more. 

Helmut is comfortable in his foster home and getting great care. He's being fostered by a doctor, and is in great hands.
