Adopt a American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat)

American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) Dog

Chip the Dog needs a home

UPDATE:  We had Chip to the vet a couple of days ago and got a bit of a shock!  Chip is a bit older than we thought!  Because of his size and the fact and had already lost his puppy teeth the shelter set his age at 5 months.  Our vet places his age at closer to 8 months because he also has his adult molars (which come in about 7 months).  Chip's molars have a bot of tartar on them, indicating that he's had them for a while.  SO ... Chip is not going to be a big guy when fully grown. He might be 45-50 lbs. once he's completely filled out.  It'll be interesting to see!  He will be an awesome family member for someone, for sure.  He is currently working on "wait" and has gotten very good at sitting at your feet and waiting for a treat.  His leash skills are also progressing.  Stay tuned for more developments as we get to know him better.

UPDATE:  After a few days of trying out many different names we are now calling this little guy Chip!  Chip is a delightful pup.  He's SMART!  He's AFFECTIONATE!  Good with kids and other dogs.  He has learned "sit" and we're working on "down" and on NOT jumping up but we believe that since he is so smart and eager to please this will not be a long-term problem.  Chip must have been at least partially house trained before he became a stray because he hasn't had an accident inside the house in several days.  He is crate trained ... goes in willingly and lays quietly.  He loves attention and will melt right into you to soak up ear scritches and belly rubs.  If you're looking for a good solid companion dog, Chip is your guy!

This handsome boy was picked up as a stray in Prince George's County, MD.  As most people are aware, pit bull type dogs are banned in PG County so the only way this guy was getting out of the shelter was through rescue ... and we are the lucky ones who got to give him his fresh start!  He is a bit skinny but he's gaining weight well and we anticipate that he will continue to do so.  The shelter described him as "the whole puppy package" and we are finding that his behavior and energy level is typical for his age.  We will update this bio as we find out more about him so check back often!!
