We are rehoming our beloved dog, Kobey. He would be an wonderful dear companion for an adult or couple. He is well-trained and a great listener in obedience (not used to healing close on a leash, but could retrain on this). He loves to play fetch with balls or frisbees and to go for walks. He is a great guard dog for barking at the door, but great with people. He is also very sensitive and innately comforting. He has given me many hugs and much attentiveness throughout his life, especially recently in grieving our other dog Duke. They were fairly happy to be mostly outside together, but now Kobey is really longing to be close with someone. I deeply don’t want him to go, but I also very much want Kobey to have a happier more involved life. He and Duke were unfortunately not reliably safe around our kids. Kobey has never bitten anyone, but he does guard his resources (food, toys, sleeping spot) with growling at the kids or cat. And, when my son touched Kobey’s muzzle years ago, Kobey growled, which we know now is essentially failing a temperament test to be with children. We have unfortunately waited too long to come to this conclusion, when he could have found his family a lot earlier. But now that we have heard the same consensus from two excellent trainers, we realize that we can't always control the environment, and that it is a safety risk for our kids. He has gotten along well with my mom’s female dog, but not with our other male dog. If he could be in a home without kids, probably without cats, and only possibly with another dog, he would really shine and be a light and love for someone. He is a phenomenal best friend. He comes with two books and notes from our trainer on resource guarding and sentry behavior (barking when hearing sounds around the house/yard). I feel that there is a family waiting for him, and I truly hope for happiness on both sides.
