Adopt a Italian Mastiff
Bruno the Dog needs a home
This stunning, lovable, friendly, gentle giant is Bruno. Bruno is approximately 4 years old, and weighs a little over 105 pounds,.He's solid muscle, but can still put on some weight, Bruno's story needs a happy ending,,,We hope his family find him soon...
Bruno originally came to MMR in the Spring of 2017 from a shelter, where he was surrendered by his owner. The owner indicated that he was moving and could not take Bruno with him. Bruno had been in this home since puppyhood, and he was bewildered at the shelter. He was very anxious and worried at the noisy shelter, and was incredibly sad. One of our volunteers who also works as a volunteer with this shelter as well as MMR, saw that he needed help and asked us to step in to help.
Once in our care, Bruno went to a foster home with a large family. We thought Bruno had hit the jackpot when his foster home asked to adopt him. They had another large dog (who also came from MMR) that adored Bruno, and the feelings were mutual. The children in the home loved Bruno, and he was loving and playful with them, as well. Fast forward to November, 2017 and we were informed that the foster's boyfriend insisted that Bruno leave the home after a minor scuffle with the other dog. There were absolutely no injuries to either dog, and we are not sure if this was an actual scuffle or a round of rough play. The details given were very vague. Bruno is now looking for a home and family that will not let him down like the other two homes have in the past.
Bruno's original owner stated that this magnificent dog was friendly, active, smart, protective and playful. Bruno proved to be just that in his second home, and showed that he was house trained, and loved (or ignored) other animals. He adores adults and children. He was even tested with cats during his short stay in the shelter and was fine with them-in fact he is afraid of them. However, we do not recommend he be placed in a home with cats or small dogs due to his weight and size. He will also not be placed in a home with ANY small children. Only homes with children over the age of 12 will be considered. He is just a gentle giant, but could accidentally cause injury to a small child or animal. Bruno is fine while alone in the home and is not destructive as long as someone is home. But he does have some separation anxiety. Bruno cannot be crated.
This big guy has been handled extensively. He is fine with being touched and petted, and shows no food or toy guarding. He is VERY VERY strong on leash, and can only be walked on leash by an adult who is strong enough to keep him close. He doesn't jerk on the leash, but has a strong, steady pull to it. He likes to play, but he has a short attention span and may want to move on to other things after a short period of play. He is EXCEPTIONALLY smart, and very alert and trainable. In fact, the family that is lucky enough to adopt Bruno will be REQUIRED TO TAKE HIM THROUGH A BASIC OBEDIENCE COURSE, WITH PROOF OF THE COMPLETED CLASS GIVEN TO MMR
Bruno is a very special dog. His intake file from the shelter states that he will be an exceptional and loyal companion for any human. Could that be you?
MMR is seeking a home that meets the minimum requirements listed above, as well as the following: Potential Adopters MUST have experience with this breed or breeds with similar size and temprament. NO EXCEPTIONS. A FENCED YARD, WITH FENCING ADEQUATE FOR A DOG THIS SIZE IS ALSO REQUIRED. Bruno will not be placed in apartment, condo, or townhouse homes. Finally, Bruno will not be placed in any home that has HOA or city/county breed restrictions.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:
