Yellow Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Poppy - shep the Dog needs a home

Wonderful pretty Poppy is a survivor This girl is a survivor! She endured being out on her own, starving and alone. After being hit by a car, she waited for a week in an old truckyard before she was rescued. She made it through surgery to have her back right leg removed due to a severely broken bone, has been putting on weight beautifully, and will be starting treatment soon for heartworm.

Despite all this, Poppy loves people. She wants to snuggle up next to you with her Kong or a bone, give you kisses, and feel safe.

At the moment Poppy only weighs 55 lbs but at healthy weight she will probably reach around 65 lbs. She is only 18months old.

Poppy simply adores playing with squeaky toys or tackling a Kong filled with peanut butter....

One thing to note is that Poppy has a high prey drive and for that reason should NOT be homed with cats.

Poppy loves people however and would do well in a home with older children.

Poppy can be excitable around people, but does alright laying down and hanging out when the TV is on

Poppy has one ear that stands up, while the other is floppy. When brushing her, she might wind up grooming you instead! She also has only 3 legs, but it hasn't done much to hinder her at all.

Poppy is housebroken.

Poppy still has some healing to do from her surgery, and heartworm treatment however if this girl has grabbed your heart and you're will to wait for her, then please fill in an application to adopt at www.codysfriendsrescue.com/adopt

In March 2017, Poppy was rescued from a truckyard, where she'd crawled to after being struck by a car a week before. Unfortunately, one leg was so severely broken, it was beyond saving and needed to be amputated. She was dirty, emaciated, injured, and very sad... at first.

Now she's a happy puppy- three legs hasn't slowed down this pretty girl at all!

She enjoys chasing her foster-brother around the back yard, playing tug with squeak toys, and following her foster-mom around the house while doing chores. Her brush with the car hasn't stopped her from loving people, and she constantly wants to be by your side.

At only ~2 years old, Poppy still has a lot of puppy mannerisms. The great news is she's food-motivated and wants to please, so picks up on things easily.

She is house trained, LOVES her crate, and is familiar with using a doggy-door.

She walks fine on a leash, and rides well in the car.

Although nervous at first, Poppy can be introduced to other canine friends. However, a high prey drive makes her makes her chase cats, so she would do best in a home without them.

Poppy has been in fostering for awhile, and would love to find her forever home soon!

If you can give this happy, slightly-special needs pup a loving home, she'll be your best friend forever! Please go to the following link to apply:
