Maverick the Dog needs a home
Maverick has been in our holding kennel since November 2015. Waiting. Hoping for a forever or even a foster home. He is a 70 pound, 6-8 year old Pibble Mix. He has a golden tan coat with white on his chest, feet, and face. Maverick spent years tied outside where he could see other dogs, but could never get close enough to interact with them. Because of that, he needed to learn proper interaction with other dogs, he now enjoys multiple daily walks with his canine friends at the kennel, both male and female. Maverick has excelled at basic obedience and enjoys the mental activity of doing it daily.
He has quite the joy for life. He loves toys. Lots of them. And he’ll literally love them to pieces. He loves blankets! After years of living outside, he now loves to burrow into a pile a blankets and cover himself up until he is completely hidden. He loves walks, meeting new people, cuddling and affection. He adores car rides, even to the vet, and he is always a well-behaved gentleman there. He has really thrived in the routine of the kennel environment with the love and care of the volunteers there.
We think he is OK with cats although he is not around them in our care. A home with older, dog savvy, or no kids would be best for Maverick. His ideal would have a fenced yard. It would also require someone willing to provide a steady supply of chewies and be able to keep Maverick safe from trash can raids or counter surfing. Yes, he is an opportunist. His forever home should enjoy Mav’s unique, somewhat quirky, personality and be able to provide guidance, mental stimulation, and exercise in addition to loving this big goofball.
October 2017
Maverick has been with H2H for almost 2 years. This is an anniversary we do not want to celebrate. He has now been in a foster home for the last couple months.
His foster family has actually been fostering for five years, before they joined the H2H team, they fostered in another state and Maverick is their 14th foster dog. They said that Maverick is by far the sweetest dog they have ever fostered and they cannot believe he is not yet adopted!
A couple that volunteers with us go visit the big guy every couple weeks and he is always excited to see them. During the last visit, they took him for a walk and were blown away seeing his progress. The foster family said he was not really reactive anymore, unless another dog barks at him and then he just kind of grumbles his doggie response, as if to say …. “Don’t know what you have to complain about, in your pretty fenced in yard”!
On a recent walk they saw four cats, two little dogs and one big shepherd in a back yard throwing a fit. When we saw the cats, he seemed curious but not enough to pursue or even take a step in their direction. It seemed like he didn’t mind these other creatures…he had a home to return to, foster or not, it is his for now. He seemed content and happy, too happy and content to bother with these little four legged distractions.
