Boxer / Rottweiler / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Mumford the Dog needs a home

Mumford is an elegant Boxer-Rotweiler mix, brown with a white chest and natural (undocked) tail. He will be 6 years old this July (2017), but you wouldn't know it by his puppy like energy, curiosity & playfulness. Mumford loves to run, especially on leash next to you riding your bike. If you run on foot with him, he may drag you along the first mile or two. He is a fantastic soccer player & loves to chase around his 10" Unbreakaball. In typical boxer fashion, he uses his paws when wrestling & playing almost always, but is very aware of his space when around small kids or animals. He loves to chew on nylabones & you will never be lacking in kisses from this affectionate pup.

A special treat for Mums is carrots (especially frozen ones) & yogurt frozen in his kong. At the end of the day, Mumford loves nothing more than to snuggle next to you (or on your lap, despite his 70 lbs), get lots of affection & go to sleep. He's good about sharing your bed, but also content to sleep in his own on the floor. He is also familiar with crates & crate training from his first 3 years of life.

Mumford was his foster’s first dog; adopted when he was 4 weeks old. So he got to welcome his (older) adoptive doggie brother and his two human siblings. Mumford is as curious as the children, so he loves to follow them around, picking up food they spill/drop & smelling around whatever the kids are exploring. Mumford does not enjoy being sat on or surprised by little ones, so we've done our best to encourage our kids to respect our dogs' space, especially when they are laying down & resting. He's never shown any aggression toward children, ever.

Mumford is highly anxious around loud noises, so gunshots, fireworks or thunderstorms send him hiding under whatever he can fit. He lives with his adoptive doggie brother, & in the last couple years developed some competitive/possessiveness around special toys or treats. Never directed at humans, just our other dog, which has led to several scuffles. For this reason he needs a new forever home, ideally as the only dog, with an active family willing to patiently help him recover some socialization skills with guests (he obsessively licks new friends) & new dogs (he's anxious greeting new dogs due to a past incident in which he was chased down by an unstable, territorial German shepherd at a local dog park).

Mumford would thrive with regular walks, runs, bike rides, hiking or swimming - the key for him is active & mentally challenging. He loves water challenges, especially swimming, chasing sprinklers or bubbles. He is also great at playing hide & seek, be that yourself, your kids, or carrots hiding, and enjoys discovering or finding them. We love this sweet, amazing pup. And unfortunately, his energy level exceeds what our family is able to currently provide for in his best health & benefit.

He is a very responsive & smart dog, knows the basic commands in addition to a few tricks.

If you feel your home might be the right place for such a great dog - the place to start is with the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you promptly to tell you more and to arrange a time to meet!

The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter.

Mumford is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster, not by DFWRM.
