Hi, I'm Brave Heart a very sweet American Staffordshire Terrier X. I've been described as being the poster dog for love, loyalty, and ferocity. Here is the story of how I got my name from C.A.R.L.

My owner and 3 other people were living in a car in a park (not in Ventura County). Law enforcement received a report of "shots fired" in the park. On arrival they found 2 dead in the car and my owner's best friend dead next to the car. My owner and I had scrambled out of the car (gunfire still erupting). Immediately, I attacked the shooters and drove them off (this account has been verified by police report and newspaper account). I was taken to the local animal services. Workers there were unable to handle me (I'd just survived a street war, overstimulated, you think?). They considered "putting me down". The law officer transporting me interceded and thankfully euthanasia was put on hold. My owner was only 17 so he couldn't pick me up. He begged his social worker to help save me and it worked. She found C.A.R.L. and they agreed to take me in. My owner and his caretaker picked me up and drove me to Ventura County and C.A.R.L.

C.A.R.L. was astounded at how friendly and loving I am. All I want to do is be with someone who cares. I am not sure I am ready to be left alone at home. I was so happy living full time with my owner and now I have my new friends at C.A.R.L. with me all the time. I might want to live in a home where someone is home almost all the time. I am not sure about living with other dogs, hope to work on making friends while I am at C.A.R.L.

My owner came out to play with me and help us both recover from all the changes. He did lots of work at C.A.R.L. as a volunteer. He said I saved him, he saved me and C.A.R.L. gave both of us a chance. Now he has gone to live with family and I could not go. We said good bye and I am ready to find someone else to call family.

I was lucky enough to go for an overnight with my C.A.R.L. Pal Sarah. She thinks I'm house-trained as I did well at her home, but she did take me out fairly often. I did well with toys and enjoy chewing on them. Sarah recommends lots of chew toys, possibly one of those deletable antlers. She gave me a bed next to hers, but I convinced her to let me sleep with her on her bed. I was very well behaved and I slept quietly in one place. I played with my ball for hours on end and laid next to Sarah on the couch when I got tired. I hope I get to go back again. I sure had a great time!

*Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving him the chance for a better life.
