Barley the Dog needs a home
If there was a doggie Olympic heptathlon, Barley would be a gold medalist. He has mastered the skills of running with humans, obedience, snuggling, cutest zoomies, catching treats, de-stuffing fluffy toys... and of course he would be the winner in the "most handsome" event. Barley is currently in a foster home where he has proven himself to be a perfect house dog. He chills in the guest room while his person is away and can be left alone for 8-10 hours without issue. Barley is housetrained and he knows several commands including sit, down, shake and place, and he walks perfectly on a leash. Barley enjoys learning new things and is in the Total Obedience Program. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Barley as a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn the skills to become the best dog he can be! He is learning skills like sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," as well as 'place' (running-to and staying-in a designated spot) and coming when called. Once Barley successfully completes all the skills on his training plan he will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Barley is working hard to become a wonderful pet and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Barley after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193 This handsome guy has enjoyed hiking trips to McKinney Falls and even completed several races around the Austin area with his foster mom. Barley is a regular out on the Ladybird Lake trail, too, where he shows off his excellent leash manners. Though he loves to get his exercise, we wouldn't call him high-energy. He loves cuddling on the couch and relaxing. Barley would love an active home that also recognizes the importance of affection and snuggle time. If that sounds like yours, come meet Barley!
