Adopt a Maltese / Mixed (long coat)
Powder the Dog needs a home
We will be doing adoptions on Saturday, February 17th and Sunday, February 18th from 12-4pm at Palo Alto Pet Food Express. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated and microchipped.
* If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. * We do not have a facility. All dogs live in foster homes. Arrangements to meet dogs occur after an approved application has been accepted. * We do not ship our dogs for any reason. * Our adoption fee is $400 for each dog/puppy. * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on @DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: www.facebook.com/DPSRescue
This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-4pm on Sat. Feb. 17th & Sun. Feb. 18th or until adopted. If interested, please fill out an application if you would like the first opportunity to meet prior to the start of the event. (We will pre-approve one home to meet per dog.)
Powder is a 1-2 year old Maltese mix who was surrendered to us when her family no longer had time to care for her. She has a non-shedding coat that is an option for those who have allergies or simply want a non-shedding dog. She will require regular grooming. Her coat is very long. If her new owner prefers her coat to be shorter, then she will look great in a short 'do, too! The following is what her foster home has to say about her:
"Powder loves walks and exploring- she had to check out our whole house when she got here. When she is tired she loves to snuggle, but she has quite a bit of energy and if its up to her she doesn’t want to sit still for too long. The first day we had her I didn’t feel that great, and I spent most of the day in bed. she hung out with me pretty happily most of the day. She really liked curling up on my stomach to sleep, but if i moved too much she would flop down by my feet. Her whole demeanor is very puppyish.
She is very wiggly and silly. So far she seems like a very happy dog. When she gets excited, especially when she gets yummy food, she does a little happy twirl. She definitely plays with toys a bit, but gets distracted easily. However she has a fair amount of energy so I suspect the more use to our house she gets the more she will play. She has only met one other dog since we’ve had her, and she seemed fine with him, although didn’t show interest in playing with him even though he wanted to play with her.
Powder has been very sweet with everyone she has met so far. She walked into our house for the first time and instantly decided we were friends. She is definitely a watch dog, she lets us know when someone is approaching the house. She also seems to be a quick learner, although she definitely has a mind of her own when it comes to being told what to do! The first night we put her in her crate and she barked and cried for more than an hour before falling asleep and sleeping through the night. By the third night she went in to the crate on her own and didn’t make any noise. She doesn’t know any tricks yet, but I suspect with the motivation of some very tasty treats she would learn no problem.
In her old home she was potty trained, but it took her a few days to figure out that she shouldn’t pee in our house. Now we are just keeping a close eye on her, and taking her out frequently, and she seems to be figuring it out. She is a very sweet, and friendly dog who is full of personality. We are really enjoying having her here.
Powder is only an option for a home with dog experience. If there are children in the home, they need to be over the age of 8.
