Meet Sir Sammy!
This handsome young pup is looking for his forever home, could it be with you? Sir Sammy is an approximately 10 month old puppy, who appears to be a Doberman mix based on his appearance. He is big for his age - already weighing in at 55 pounds! He would love to join an active family as he has a lot of energy and would fit right in. Sammy is good with everyone he meets: adults, kids, and other dogs. He has not met any cats yet, but he is very playful, and may try to play with them. He is friendly and playful towards all dogs that he has met, however, his play style may be a little too rough for smaller sized dogs. While Sammy is good with children, he may do better in a family with older children, because of his energy level and size. Sammy has a lot of energy, and loves to play with his people, with toys, and likes fetch! He will need about 2-4 hours of exercise a day to thrive! While Sir Sammy does not require a fenced-in yard, if it is not an option he will need daily leashed walks, as well as opportunities for off-leash play, like at a dog park, which would be the next best thing! A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation - think puzzle toys and games. Sammy is currently working on his house training and leash training, he pulls on a leash, but his foster mom thinks he will make a great running buddy once he learns not to pull! He is also working on mastering crate training, right now he is crated when his foster mom leaves the house (about 4-5 hours at a time) and at night (about 8 hours), and while he whines at first, he settles and does great for the whole duration! Sir Sammy also has a couple of basic commands down, like sit and fetch! He will still need work on his house manners, he does like to check out any food that is on the counter and likes to chew sometimes. We recommend that all of our dogs attend basic obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization with new dogs and people for the dog! It will also help strengthen the ever important bond between the dog and his family. It's lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed almost anywhere you take him! Sir Sammy will love going to these classes too, because his foster mom says he is intelligent and eager to please! Sammy's backstory: Sammy lived in a loving home in AR with two small dogs and did well, but is looking for a new home because his main caregiver works off-shore and only comes home on the weekends.
